AI can now produce more content in an afternoon than most marketing teams used to create in a month. For Joe Pulizzi, that’s precisely the problem and the opportunity.

“Creating more content is no longer a competitive advantage,” said Pulizzi, founder of The Tilt and a pioneer in the content marketing industry. “AI makes content abundant, which means trust, distinctiveness, and genuine relationships will become more valuable than ever.”

At MAICON 2026, Pulizzi will introduce The Trust Portfolio, a new framework for building credibility faster in a landscape where machine-generated content is rapidly becoming the norm.

His session comes as generative AI floods every channel with low-cost, synthetic content and the strategies that built audiences over the past two decades — pick a focus, commit to a platform, publish consistently, and wait — are becoming obsolete. With AI, they’re too slow.

The Trust Problem No One Is Discussing

For nearly 20 years, the content marketing playbook has been straightforward: show up, deliver value, and earn attention over time. Pulizzi literally wrote the book on it [“Content Inc.” and “Epic Content Marketing”]. His latest is “Burn the Playbook.”

When AI systems create, summarize, synthesize, and recommend, producing “more content” is not a viable strategy. The window to build an audience that knows, likes, and trusts you is closing faster than most teams realize.

Pulizzi argues that trust is built through two forces. The first is consistency: showing up, delivering value, and doing what you say you will do. The second is what he calls finding your “tilt,” the differentiation that makes you stand out among the clutter and AI sameness.

“I’m optimistic, but only for those who understand that creating more content is no longer a competitive advantage,” Pulizzi said. “I’m afraid most companies will get lost in this, while a few will flourish and prosper.”

Trust Across People, Not Just Channels

One of the core ideas Pulizzi will unpack at MAICON is a shift in how organizations think about where trust lives.

Most companies spread content across multiple channels but still rely on a single founder, executive, or expert or simply the brand itself to carry all the credibility. Pulizzi sees that as a high-risk bet.

“A true trust portfolio develops multiple credible voices so the audience builds relationships with the organization, not just one person,” he said. “We may have a limited time to build real trust through digital channels, so we need to create more opportunities through more people simultaneously.”

He likens the approach to financial diversification: building a portfolio of trusted voices rather than going all in on one stock.

What Pulizzi Will Explore at MAICON

In his session, “When All the Content Is Synthetic: The Trust Portfolio,” Pulizzi will address why brand-led audience building has become a higher-risk strategy, how organizations can activate trusted employees as strategic trust signals, what guardrails are required to make this work at scale, and how to build a framework for both consistency and differentiation in an AI-saturated content landscape.

When content is infinite, trust is scarce. This session shows how to build it before it’s too late.

What You’ll Gain from Pulizzi’s Session

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for rethinking how their organizations build and distribute trust. Rather than chasing more volume or more channels, you’ll learn how to develop multiple credible voices, create the distinctiveness that cuts through AI-generated noise, and build the kind of audience relationships that compound over time rather than erode.

For marketers and leaders who have spent years building content strategies, this session offers a clear-eyed view of what needs to change and a concrete model for how to do it.
