I think the start of this week's video really nailed it for the techies amongst us: shit doesn't work, you change something random and now shit works and yu have no idea why 🤷♂️ Such was my audio this week and apoligise to those of you watching the video below for the first few mins (although I managed to clean up the audio-only podcast version). Ironically, doing things non-standard at home was intended to iron out the creases before the impending travel so… a week from now when I do this with Scott Helme from Duabi it'll all be fine!…
In the hours and days after news and videos spread of the ICE shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis last week, a small army of right-wing, pro-Trump creators, journalists, and influencers descended on the city and flooded social media. They filmed protests; rode along with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection; documented — and at times seemingly instigated — confrontations with protesters; and worked a competing, ICE- and Trump-friendly narrative out of what was happening in Minneapolis. From the ground, they churned out content painting protesters as lawless, demonstrations as riots, and anti-ICE activists as extremists or criminals.…
Mathematical superintelligence startup Harmonic AI Inc. revealed today that NVentures, the venture capital arm of Nvidia Corp., was among the investors in its $120 million Series C round that was raised on a $1.45 billion valuation in November. The funding is being used to accelerate Harmonic’s momentum in developing Aristotle, which the company claims is the world’s most advanced mathematical reasoning engine that eliminates hallucinations. Aristotle is an AI engine that specializes in formal mathematical reasoning. The engine uses the Lean 4 proof assistant, a proof assistant that allows users to write mathematical definitions, theorems and proofs in a way that can be…
In a move that marks the transition from chatbots that talk to agents that do, Anthropic has officially unveiled Cowork. Built directly into the Claude macOS desktop app, Cowork is a “research preview” designed to give non-technical users the same autonomous power previously reserved for software engineers using Claude Code. By granting the AI access to specific local folders, users can now delegate multi-step administrative and creative tasks that Claude executes independently on their machine. For the past year, the industry has buzzed about “agentic AI” – systems that can plan and act without constant human hand-holding. With Cowork, Anthropic…
A critical misconfiguration in Amazon Web Services (AWS) CodeBuild could have allowed complete takeover of the cloud service provider’s own GitHub repositories, including its AWS JavaScript SDK, putting every AWS environment at risk. The vulnerability has been codenamed CodeBreach by cloud security company Wiz. The issue was fixed by AWS in September 2025 following responsible disclosure on August 25, 2025. “By exploiting CodeBreach, attackers could have injected malicious code to launch a platform-wide compromise, potentially affecting not just the countless applications depending on the SDK, but the Console itself, threatening every AWS account,” researchers Yuval Avrahami and Nir Ohfeld said…
Wikipedia pushes to monetize its content, especially after massive demand from tech giants for AI development. The truth is apparent. All the tech powerhouses, from Meta to Amazon, have been training their AI models on Wikipedia’s content. And honestly, why not? The content holds depth and accuracy, and it’s accessible at no cost. But these partnerships aren’t all new. Wikipedia has long collaborating with these tech companies. The deals are merely a revamped version of the previous deals, along with just a few new ones. This is just an extended version. The question is- what changed? Why was a vamping…
YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed is reporting that NVIDIA has “effectively” discontinued the RTX 5070 Ti and 5060 Ti 16GB due to the ongoing memory crunch. In its most recent video, the channel states ASUS “explicitly” told it the RTX 5070 Ti is “currently facing a supply shortage.” As a result, the company has “placed the model into end of life status,” and no longer plans to produce it.Hardware Unboxed also spoke to retailers in Australia, who told the channel the 5070 Ti is “no longer available to purchase from partners and distributors,” adding they expect that to be the case…
The iPhone 16e might not be the most modern-looking iPhone on the market, but it surely offers some excellent specifications (I said some). This year, Apple will improve its affordable handset with a set of significant upgrades, giving it a modern look and feel and making it as fast as the iPhone 17. Digital Chat Station, a Chinese tipster, claims that the iPhone 17e “will debut in the first half of the year” in a Weibo post. While that could be anytime between January and June, the iPhone 16e’s launch timeline could help narrow the launch window. Image used with…
Reports surfaced this week confirming what many industry observers had long suspected but feared to articulate: China has launched a “Manhattan Project” for semiconductors. This massive, state-backed initiative has a singular, existential goal—to reverse-engineer the ultra-complex lithography machines currently monopolized by the Dutch firm ASML. By cracking the code on Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) technology, Beijing aims to shatter the chained gates of U.S. sanctions and achieve self-sufficiency in manufacturing the chips necessary to train frontier Artificial Intelligence (AI) models. This is not merely industrial espionage on a grand scale; it is a geopolitical inflection point. The race for AI dominance…
One only has to read the daily newsfeeds to see how drastic digital financial crime is around the world. South Africa is particularly vulnerable. It’s been reported that around 70% of South Africans have been victims of some form of cybercrime as compared to the global rate of 50%. South Africa has not only maintained among the top countries that experience cyber attacks, but the numbers are increasing. Mobile cybercrime has been on the uptick as 47% of South African smartphone users have reported having mobile cybercrime. The results of the financial fraud has been enough to list South Africa…
