Ravie LakshmananFeb 27, 2026Endpoint Security / Windows Security Threat actors are luring unsuspecting users into running trojanized gaming utilities that are distributed via browsers and chat platforms to distribute a remote access trojan (RAT). “A malicious downloader staged a portable Java runtime and executed a malicious Java archive (JAR) file named jd-gui.jar,” the Microsoft Threat Intelligence team said in a post on X. “This downloader used PowerShell and living-off-the-land binaries (LOLBins) like cmstp.exe for stealthy execution.” The attack chain is also designed to evade detection by deleting the initial downloader and by configuring Microsoft Defender exclusions for the RAT components.…
Why the companies that survive 2026 won’t be the ones with the best AI. They’ll be the ones with the best instincts. Let’s start with what happened. Between February 3 and February 5, 2026, approximately $285 to $300 billion in software market value evaporated. Not slowly. Not with a warning. In 48 hours. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF, IGV, entered a technical bear market, falling more than 20% from its late-2025 peaks. Salesforce lost nearly 40% of its value over twelve months. ServiceNow dropped 28% year to date. Workday announced layoffs attributed directly to AI efficiency gains. SAP missed…

For anyone who has been following the soap opera unfolding between Netflix and Paramount Skydance over the past few months in their financial brinksmanship to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, the saga may be nearing its end. Today, WBD said its board of directors have determined that the latest offer from Paramount Skydance amounted to the better proposal. The media outfit gave Netflix four business days to match Paramount’s terms, but the streamer didn’t waste any time in declining to raise its own bid.”We believe we would have been strong stewards of Warner Bros.’ iconic brands, and that our deal would…
It turns out that making a phone thinner doesn’t automatically make it more popular. Reports suggest the iPhone Air hasn’t sold well, and now it appears Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, a phone launched as a direct competitor to the iPhone Air, hasn’t performed much better. In an interview with Bloomberg, Won-Joon Choi, chief operating officer of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Business, said that the sales for Galaxy S25 Edge were “relatively lower than other lineups.” He attributed the lower sales numbers to the small battery pack, which provides lower endurance than the company’s other offering. Have you ever had an idea for something that looked cool, but wouldn’t work well in practice? When it comes to designing things like decor and personal accessories, generative artificial intelligence (genAI) models can relate. They can produce creative and elaborate 3D designs, but when you try to fabricate such blueprints into real-world objects, they usually don’t sustain everyday use.The underlying problem is that genAI models often lack an understanding of physics. While tools like Microsoft’s TRELLIS system can create a 3D model from a text prompt or image, its design for a chair, for example, may be unstable, or have…
Hello, Cyber Builders 🖖In recent months, I’ve looked at how cloud, SaaS, and now AI are changing cybersecurity go-to-market strategies. This post wraps up that series, and it’s the one that matters most. This isn’t just another round of new features. There’s a real shift in how cybersecurity value is built, delivered, and sold. The lines between software vendors, system integrators, and MSSPs are fading. At the same time, AI is starting to automate work that used to require skilled people—like tuning detections, triaging alerts, running investigations, and making recommendations. As product and service lines blur and AI automation grows, every business…
Iowa lawmakers voted to advance state House bill 751 last week, legislation that would ensure farmers in the state can freely repair their own agricultural equipment, like tractors. This Tuesday, the bill was renamed to House File 2709 and will be voted on again. Should the political winds align, it will go through the Iowa House and Senate before the Iowa legislature adjourns on April 21.The bill is the first of nearly 57 state bills supported by repair advocates across the country in 2026. Many of them focus on farm equipment in states like Oklahoma, Wyoming, Delaware, and West Virginia.…
Paramount Skydance has won its bidding war against Netflix to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Late Thursday, Netflix walked away from its planned takeover of Netflix, saying it “had declined to raise its offer” after Paramount submitted a revised all-cash bid of $31 per share on Tuesday to buy WBD in its entirety. WBD had reviewed the rival offer and announced that its board of directors found it “superior” to the Netflix agreement. Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters said in a statement: “At the price required to match Paramount Skydance’s latest offer, the deal is no longer financially attractive.” The statement went on to say:…
Cybersecurity data science has shifted enterprise defense from a human-led response to a high-speed computational challenge. As attackers automate and compress breach timelines, organizations must analyze massive volumes of telemetry in near-real-time to keep pace. Nowhere is this speed mismatch more visible than in the modern security operations center. As threat actors weaponize automation to breach environments in minutes, the traditional security operations center is struggling to bridge a 45-minute “alert gap” created by fragmented tools and legacy pipelines, according to Josh Salmanson (pictured, far left), vice president of the Cyber Defensive Practice at Leidos Inc. “Adversaries are getting into an environment…
