Enterprise AI is moving past experimentation, and the infrastructure decisions behind it are becoming business decisions.

As companies put AI into production, the conversation is expanding beyond models and GPUs to the data, infrastructure and operating models required to support AI at scale. Dell Technologies Inc. has been building around that shift through its AI Factory strategy, private cloud portfolio and AI Data Platform, positioning infrastructure as an increasingly important foundation for enterprise AI.

“It’s about economics, it’s about control and it’s about AI sovereignty,” said Dave Vellante, chief analyst at theCUBE Research, in recent coverage of Dell’s private cloud strategy.

Those priorities are reshaping infrastructure as organizations determine where AI workloads run, how data is accessed and how much control enterprises retain over increasingly autonomous systems.

Join theCUBE on Sept. 29 for coverage of Dell’s AI Leadership Symposium, where Dell leaders, technology innovators and industry experts will discuss the systems, strategies and operational decisions shaping production AI. The program will feature conversations with representatives from Dell Technologies, Deepgram, MisaLabs, Sycamore, Singulr AI and Intel. (* Disclosure below.)

Production AI requires a complete infrastructure foundation

Putting AI into production means connecting compute, storage, networking and data with the software and governance layers needed to turn intelligence into business action.

Dell has increasingly framed that challenge around an integrated AI infrastructure platform rather than individual components. The company’s AI Factory customer base surpassed 5,000 earlier this year, while Dell executives have emphasized that becoming AI-native requires organizations to rethink existing processes rather than simply layer AI onto them.

“We’ve gone from technology that allows customers to be AI-first to technology that allows customers to be AI-native,” said Arthur Lewis, president of the Infrastructure Solutions Group at Dell. The company’s broader argument is that technology transformation and process redesign need to advance together as organizations seek greater productivity from AI.

Data is another critical piece of that equation. Agents need access to enterprise information, knowledge graphs and other contextual resources that allow them to reason and act within business environments.

John Roese, global chief technology officer and chief AI officer of Dell, recently emphasized the infrastructure required to make that possible.

“That data layer is not magic. It’s a real thing. You have to actually build it,” Roese said.

Dell’s AI Data Platform reflects that emphasis, bringing together data access, metadata intelligence, governance and hybrid orchestration as organizations move AI projects from proofs of concept into production. As Vellante and industry analyst George Gilbert recently wrote, organizations need a “complete system” around AI models that connects existing applications, establishes a shared data foundation, governs agent actions and incorporates human feedback.

The broader question at the symposium will be how those pieces come together as enterprises scale AI without creating another layer of fragmented infrastructure.
