If you read George Orwell’s classic political satire Animal Farm in seventh grade, you probably remember the basic contours of the plot: fed up with human rule, a group of well-intentioned barnyard animals set up their own egalitarian society, with disastrous results. Published in 1945, Animal Farm has a timeless (and, certainly, contemporarily relevant) message: it’s about how the impulse to retain power will always come at the expense of our basic morality. That message, however, seems to have been lost on most MAGA influencers assigned the book in middle school (if they even read it at all). After their failure…
“The thing that really struck me when I came to MIT and strikes me every single day is the stuff that’s going on here is amazing. The science, the engineering… every day I hear something that makes my jaw drop,” remarked President Sally Kornbluth during a live discussion with Lizzie O’Leary of Slate’s “What Next: TBD” podcast.Kornbluth spoke about everything from the importance of curiosity-driven science and why basic science is critical to our nation’s future, to AI and education, and even bravely joined O’Leary in a rendition of the Williams College song, “The Mountains,” in honor of their shared…
After two decades in tech, he now makes tiny collectible figures of pop culture characters After spending two decades climbing the corporate ladder, including a stint at a FAANG company, 40-year-old Singaporean GT has found himself on a very different path. Ravie LakshmananApr 30, 2026Hacking News / Cybersecurity News The internet is noisy this week. We are seeing some wild new tactics, like people using fake cell towers to send scam texts, while some developers are accidentally downloading tools that peek into their private files during a simple install. It is definitely a busy time to be online. Security is always a moving target. Millions of servers are currently sitting online without any passwords, and old software bugs are showing up in the most unexpected places. Even with the right fixes available, staying one step ahead is a full-time job for…
Developer-centered artificial intelligence cloud provider Runpod Inc. today announced the launch of Flash, a software development kit and platform that removes the infrastructure overhead for deploying AI. With Flash, developers can go directly from local Python code to cloud AI inference, no container setup, no image management, no infrastructure configuration – just freewheeling and auto-scaling. “We built Flash because the feedback was consistent: Serverless is powerful, but the setup gets in the way,” said founder and Chief Executive Zhen Lu said. “Docker is a great tool; it’s just not the work developers came to do. Flash gives developers back that time.” Lu said developers need only write Python, pick their compute preference and then they’re serving…
The night sky over Microsoft’s headquarters campus in Redmond, Wash. (GeekWire File Photo / Todd Bishop) Microsoft will take a $900 million charge in its current quarter for its one-time voluntary retirement program, the company disclosed in its earnings report Wednesday. Just to put that in context, it’s roughly equal to one day of revenue for the company at its current rate. Microsoft brought in $82.9 billion in its most recent quarter, ended March 31. The retirement program is part of a broader reshaping of Microsoft’s workforce, which numbered 228,000 employees globally as of mid-2025, the last publicly released count.…
GTM teams set goals all the time. Most of them are either too vague to act on or too narrow to mean anything. SMART goals are not a framework to follow rigidly. They are a forcing function that reveals whether you actually understand your motion, your buyer, and your organization’s capacity. Here is what that looks like in practice. Every GTM team has goals. The question is whether those goals are doing any work. There is a version of goal-setting that happens in planning cycles that looks productive and produces almost nothing. Numbers get written down. Slides get built. Leadership…

I’ve spent a fair share of my time copying Gemini’s outputs into a Word document, reformatting the headers, fixing the spacing, and wondering why AI can’t do this on its own. Fortunately, Google has finally done something that reduces my pain. Today, Google announced an update wherein the Gemini app can generate downloadable, ready-to-share files directly inside the chat, with no manual reformatting required. You can now ask Gemini to create Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and more directly in your chat. No more copying, pasting, or reformatting, just prompt and download.Available globally for all @GeminiApp users. pic.twitter.com/VuhlvehFuU— Sundar Pichai (@sundarpichai)…
