Inside an Amazon data center. (AWS Photo / Noah Berger) Big tech companies scored a big win in Washington state with the defeat of legislation regulating electricity rate and environmental impacts of data centers — but it lost a significant tax break for the facilities with the 11th-hour passage of Senate Bill 6231. The state’s Legislature wrapped up its 2026 session Thursday night shortly after signing off on SB 6231, which eliminates a sales tax break on equipment and labor required to refurbish existing data centers. The measure preserved tax benefits for new facilities. Dan Diorio, vice president of state…
AI did not create the problems in B2B SaaS marketing. It just made them louder, faster, and harder to ignore. Here is what AI is actually supposed to do for your marketing strategy and why almost everyone is using it wrong. Every SaaS marketing team has AI in the stack now. Most of them are using it to write more blog posts nobody reads, generate more email sequences nobody opens, and produce more ad variations nobody clicks. And then they wonder why the metrics are not moving. So before asking what AI can do for your marketing strategy, you have…
MIT researchers have developed a generative artificial intelligence-driven approach for planning long-term visual tasks, like robot navigation, that is about twice as effective as some existing techniques.Their method uses a specialized vision-language model to perceive the scenario in an image and simulate actions needed to reach a goal. Then a second model translates those simulations into a standard programming language for planning problems, and refines the solution. In the end, the system automatically generates a set of files that can be fed into classical planning software, which computes a plan to achieve the goal. This two-step system generated plans with an…
A suspected China-based cyber espionage operation has targeted Southeast Asian military organizations as part of a state-sponsored campaign that dates back to at least 2020. Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 is tracking the threat activity under the moniker CL-STA-1087, where CL refers to cluster, and STA stands for state-backed motivation. “The activity demonstrated strategic operational patience and a focus on highly targeted intelligence collection, rather than bulk data theft,” security researchers Lior Rochberger and Yoav Zemah said. “The attackers behind this cluster actively searched for and collected highly specific files concerning military capabilities, organizational structures, and collaborative efforts with Western…
If you’ve ever squinted at your ROG Xbox Ally X’s screen and thought that it could be a little sharper, Xbox (and Microsoft) heard you, loud and clear. In April 2026, the handheld gaming PC will get a free software update that will make your games look better. No hardware updates or additional costs included. Xbox will release a feature called Automatic Super Resolution or Auto SR — Microsoft’s AI-powered answer to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR — which upscales video games from 720p up to 1080p or more (via Windows Central). OpenAI plans to add its Sora video generation model directly into ChatGPT, The Information reports . The standalone Sora app was seen as a smash hit when it launched alongside Sora 2 in September 2025, but interest in the video generation app has fallen in the time since as users ran into limits on the amount and kinds of videos they could create.Adding Sora to the ChatGPT could give the model a second life, and ideally grow the ChatGPT app’s weekly active users from the 900 million OpenAI reported in February, to a billion or more. According to The Information,…
Squeezing in more dimming zones is only half the equation for great HDR. You also need as much brightness and contrast as you can crank out, and the Studio Display XDR delivers on an unprecedented level.Apple says this can go up to 2000 nits of peak brightness, and when I measured it myself with my colorimeter, it maxed out at 1905 nits in a 25 percent window. That’s really impressive. Meanwhile, it can even do 1701 nits at 49 percent and 948 nits at full screen. This is easily the brightest computer monitor I’ve ever tested. While the contrast and…
The way we create and explore virtual worlds is evolving at lightning speed. From rapid hackathon prototypes to cutting-edge AI research, developers and companies are experimenting with technologies that turn imagination into immersive, explorable environments. Recently, builders and researchers alike have demonstrated just how far AI-generated worlds can go: from robotics simulations and interactive museums to near-infinite AI-driven landscapes. The first-ever World Labs Hackathon (WL-HACK 01) brought together 70 hackers in San Francisco to experiment with Marble, a platform for building interactive worlds. In just 3.5 hours, 32 teams created a dazzling array of projects spanning AR/VR interfaces, games, art…

Axiom Quant Inc. said today it’s ready to step up to the plate and make sure that the tsunami of artificial intelligence-generated code is safe, secure and accurate after raising $200 million in early-stage funding. The Series A round, which brings Axiom’s valuation to $1.6 billion, was led by Menlo Ventures and represents a bet on a new paradigm it calls “verified AI” that aims to eliminate the risk of “hallucinations” once and for all. Axiom’s founders are trying to tackle a fundamental flaw in the way AI creates software. Though existing tools like Claude Code and CodeRabbit can generate…
