Zeek Earl, Executive Creative Director at Packrat, on the set of the stop-motion shoot for AWS Kiro last year. (GeekWire Photo / Todd Bishop) On a rainy afternoon last November at Seattle Center, I walked into a darkened studio and found a film crew huddled around a miniature set, manipulating action figures representing software developers, a hero-protagonist ghost, and a monster representing AI slop. Now this is different, I remember thinking to myself. It was a stop-motion animation shoot for Kiro, an AI-powered software development tool from Amazon Web Services. The original Boomslang came from the era of Xbox’s bulky Duke controller. We had just barely made it past the N64’s beloved three-pronged abomination. At a time when “ergonomics” was a novel idea to be explored instead of a defined concept, this design was a lot more palatable. It’s still a gaming mouse in theory, even if the vast majority of them will spend more time on a shelf than on a mousepad, so I do need to talk about whether it can game. Shockingly enough, it’s not that bad. The shape is unusual, yes. Compared to a standard mouse, the…

Ravie LakshmananMar 14, 2026Artificial Intelligence / Endpoint Security China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team (CNCERT) has issued a warning about the security stemming from the use of OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot and Moltbot), an open-source and self-hosted autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agent. In a post shared on WeChat, CNCERT noted that the platform’s “inherently weak default security configurations,” coupled with its privileged access to the system to facilitate autonomous task execution capabilities, could be explored by bad actors to seize control of the endpoint. This includes risks arising from prompt injections, where malicious instructions embedded within a web page…

On March 10, 1876, a 29-year-old Scottish immigrant named Alexander Graham Bell sat in a modest laboratory at 5 Exeter Place in Boston and did something no human being had ever done: He spoke into a wire, and someone in the next room heard his voice. His exact words, recorded in his laboratory notebook: “Mr. Watson — Come here — I want to see you.” His assistant, a 22-year-old mechanic named Thomas Watson, came running. That was it. Nine words, shouted through a crude device that used a vibrating wire dipped in acid water to convert sound to electricity. At the…

So Accenture is moving into Latin America in a meaningful way. Last week, the firm announced it is acquiring Verum Partners, a Belo Horizonte-based infrastructure and capital projects management company with 180 people and serious on-the-ground experience in mining, metals, energy, chemicals, and transportation. No price disclosed, as is customary for these things. Verum does something specific and genuinely difficult. It takes the kind of industrial megaproject that routinely runs over budget and behind schedule and tries to make it not do that. Accenture’s own research puts the failure rate of large infrastructure projects at around 90% against original targets.…
