Get your CNY essentials and support local at these home-based businesses

Chinese New Year is all about abundance, tradition, and gathering with loved ones, and what better way to usher in the Year of the Horse than with festive treats and goodies from passionate local home‑based businesses?

While big brands and bakeries have their place, there’s something special about supporting smaller makers who pour heart into every bite and craft. Here are five Singaporean home‑grown businesses you can check out this CNY.

    1. Knead Kopi

Founded by 25-year-olds Rachel Neo and her partner Glenndon Khoo, Knead Kopi is a home-based cafe run from Rachel’s front porch at Watten Rise.

The business began as a deeply personal project—to spend more time with her ah ma, who was showing early signs of dementia— and has since grown into a warm neighbourhood hangout, with her grandmother actively involved in the baking and cafe process.

Since launching in Mar last year, the founders say the community formed around Knead Kopi has even helped improve her ah ma‘s condition.

This CNY, the business is rolling out festive bakes, from pineapple tarts and honeycomb cookies to even bakkwa cookies. Orders can be made via their website here, with self-collection available at the cafe.

    2. The Jomu Co

The Jomu Co is a home-based business specialising in keepsakes and personalised gifts, born from founder Jocelyn Ang’s passion for meaningful gifting—and her desire to create pieces that hold stories and memories close.

Every piece is handcrafted, spanning gifts and favours for any occasion, wedding decor, and home living items.

For CNY 2026, she’s rolled out a range of home decor, from hanging ornaments to figurines. Each design features auspicious phrases like 福 (fortune) and 出入平安 (peace and safety in and out), thoughtfully composed to usher in abundance and grace.

Check out her Chinese New Year collection here.

    3. SG Brisket Kitchen

SG Brisket Kitchen is a home-based smoked meat business that has developed a loyal following, with fans lining up online every Tuesday at 10 PM just to secure a slot on the website.

Founder Jayce Ho, a former business development manager in the oil and gas sector, launched SG Brisket Kitchen in 2021 and has been running it solo ever since. It took her many failed attempts before she finally nailed her first brisket—and now fans snap up her brisket within minutes of orders opening online.

This CNY, she’s offering two festive specials: a 2KG radish cake with house-cured lap yok and freshly grated radish (S$88), and Smoked & Braised French Poulet with nine treasures glutinous rice and baby abalones (S$108).

Orders can be made through her website, with deliveries and pick-ups available from Feb 9 onwards.

    4. Golden Scissors Cheongsam

Originally born in Guangxi, China, Li Qiying moved to Singapore in 2003 and opened Golden Scissors Cheongsam in 2007, in a stall at People’s Park. The shop was known for offering custom-tailored cheongsams, which gained a following from both the young and old for almost two decades.

Li, who is now in her 60s, decided to close her Chinatown shop and set up a showroom in her home at Telok Blangah, though she stopped offering bespoke services and focused on ready-made pieces. She has since officially retired, but opens her home for customers to browse through her remaining garments on sale.

Customers can only visit by making an appointment, which they can do so by messaging their Instagram account here.

    5. Whowantsaynow

Founded by Crystal Woon in 2021, WhoWantSayNow is a Singaporean home-based silversmith specialising in hand-sculpted silver jewellery.

Though the brand remains a side hustle for Crystal, WhoWantSayNow has garnered a sizable following online and has participated in offline markets such as Ressurack and even created jewellery for musicians, including K-pop group TXT, yungkai and Regina Song.

She has announced that she will be releasing a Lunar New Year collection on Feb 6, 9pm, which features necklaces and a keychain with jade and crystal pendants. Orders can be made via WhoWantSaysNow’s website.
