Agentless deception can be attractive where organizations want to limit additional endpoint software or where endpoints cannot support an agent. Agent deception or locally delivered artifacts can provide different capabilities depending on the architecture.
The better evaluation is to determine exactly which components need to be deployed, what privileges and resources they require, how they are updated, and how much operational work they create.
Fidelis, for example, supports passive discovery approaches that do not require endpoint modification for that discovery process, while its OT deception can use lightweight virtual images and containerized services deployed off-path. The exact architecture should still be validated against the intended use case.
