My personal practice is to hold off on upgrading WordPress immediately, except when the update addresses maintenance or security issues. This will give the developers time to iron out any bugs that were missed or may come up with the new version. Waiting a little longer also gives plugin developers time to release compatible updates, helping ensure everything runs smoothly with the latest version of WordPress.
